Welcome, Race Fans
A gasoline haze hangs over a dark, muddied field in Pleasant View, SC, where a curious competition takes place, celebrating the combustion engine and the need for speed. One Friday this past August, Nikki, Mikey, Andre and I journey to the middle of nowhere to witness the mud-splattered glory of 4x4 drag racing.

I have adopted a few lines from this sign as my personal mottos. Please note the line to which I'm pointing.

Yessir, that's a mighty fine truck.

No, really, just look at that engine. Almost prettier than my woman's rack.

Wild Thing, I wish I could drive you.

I love my truck, America and the South, oh, and my woman, I guess -- in that order.

The muddied field's Rodeo Drive.

Menage a truck? Note: that is not my girlfriend and she is just an innocent victim of being in front of the wrong camera at the wrong time.

Yes, that is a band playing on a flat-bed trailer in a tobacco barn. What?

Racing and country-rock fans.

Fine southern folk.

What do you mean I don't look like I'm enjoying myself.

Just need a shot of Southern Blue!

See, all better.

Born to Lose
This weekend my mom entertained my girlfriend with stories from my childhood.
This excavation of my dirty diapers was, of course, thoroughly humiliating. One little gem was unearthed, however:
As a toddler I could apparently open the refrigerator and did so fairly often. My mom finally asked me one day what exactly I was trying to get my grubby little mitts on.
It was then that I uttered the first complete sentence she recalls that I said.
I simply stated, "I want beer."
